Talking about The Bears, The Packers, The Pope...

The Bears, The Packers, The Pope...

On a tour of Florida, the Pope took a couple of days off to visit the coast for some sightseeing. He was cruising along the beach in the Pope-mobile when there was a frantic commotion just off shore.

A helpless man, wearing a Packers jersey, was struggling
frantically to free himself from the jaws of a 25-foot shark.

As the Pope watched, horrified, a speedboat came racing up with
three men wearing Bears jerseys aboard. One quickly fired a harpoon into the shark's side. The other two reached out and pulled the bleeding, semi-conscious Packers fan from the water.

Then using baseball bats, the three heroes in Bears jerseys beat the shark to death and hauled it into the boat.  Immediately the Pope shouted and summoned them to the beach. "I give you my blessing for your brave actions," he told them. "I heard that there was some bitter hatred between Bears' and Packers' fans, but now I have seen with my own eyes that this is not the truth."

As the Pope drove off, the harpooner asked his buddies "Who was that?"  "It was the Pope," one replied. "He is in direct contact with God and has access to all of God's wisdom."

"Well," the harpooner said, "he may have access to God's wisdom, but he doesn't know anything about shark fishing... how's the bait holding up?"

Talking about Wurd Up...!

Wurd Up...!

A woman goes into a tattoo parlor and tells the tattoo artist that she wants a tattoo of a turkey on her right thigh, right up just below her bikini line.  She also wants him to put "Happy Thanksgiving" under the turkey.

So the guy does it and it comes out looking real good.

The woman then instructs him to put a Santa Claus with "Merry Christmas" up on her left thigh.

So the guy does it and it comes out looking good too.

As the woman is getting dressed to leave, the tattoo artist says, "If you don't mind, could you tell me why you had me put such unusual tattoos on your thighs?"

She said, "I'm sick and tired of my husband complaining all the time that there's nothing good to eat between Thanksgiving and Christmas."

Talking about Bubba...

Bubba...

The football coach noticed that his star tackle, Bubba, had so many women
hanging around that he couldn't possibly handle all of them.  One day he
asked Bubba, "Just what the hell is your secret?"

So Bubba replies, "Well, Coach, whenever I'm about to have sex, I always
whip it out and bang it on the dresser like a hammer.  That numbs it and I
can screw 'em forever!"

The coach went home early one day and went to his bedroom.  He heard his wife in the shower.  Seeing a window of opportunity, he tore off his clothes andstarted banging it on the dresser.

His wife stuck her head out of the shower and said, "That you Bubba?"

Bears’ defense takes hit, Brown out for season
Pro Bowl safety injures right foot ligaments in win over Arizona
SportsTicker

Updated: 5:18 p.m. CT Oct 19, 2006

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Chicago Bears safety Mike Brown hobbled into the locker room on crutches, his right foot covered by a large cast and his season for the unbeaten Bears over.

One of Chicago’s most important defenders, Brown was put on injured reserve Thursday after surgery a day earlier to repair ligament damage in the foot. He was injured in a pileup during Monday night’s victory over Arizona.

It’s the third time in as many seasons Brown’s been forced to the sidelines by a different leg injury. With long hours of rehab ahead, the Pro Bowl safety was initially feeling sorry for himself.

“It’s going to be extremely tough. I was having a pity party and my wife ended that pretty soon,” Brown said.

“She told me to stop feeling sorry for myself about an hour into my pity party. I got over it pretty quickly. It stinks, man. I love playing the game.”

Brown returned a fumble for a TD to help the Bears start their 24-23 comeback win Monday night — his franchise-best seventh career defensive touchdown — and then was hurt early in the final quarter. He said he wouldn’t be out of the cast for about 10 weeks, and the Bears will turn to Todd Johnson to take over his spot.

Brown missed 14 games with a torn right Achilles’ tendon in 2004, and the injury-ravaged Bears went 5-11. Brown missed the final four regular-season games a year ago with a calf injury and then was forced out of a playoff loss to Carolina in the second quarter when he reinjured it. In his first four NFL seasons he started 47 of 48 games.

“I know people are going to say, ’injury-prone,”’ Brown said. “All the injuries that I’ve had, they don’t relate to each other. I just happened to be stuck in a pile that no player wants to be stuck in that situation. It’s a bad situation to be in, I couldn’t get my foot up out of the turf, all the weight came down. I’m just fortunate it’s just my foot and not something like my knee is gone and ligaments and all that.”

Johnson, who has 12 career starts, including 10 in Brown’s spot two years ago, is a hard-hitter, but what the Bears will miss is Brown’s leadership and his uncanny ability to always be around the football.

“You can’t really replace his leadership and his presence,” Johnson said Thursday. “He spoke to the defensive backs and said the train has to go on.”

Brown’s 14 career interceptions include two he returned for game-winning overtime touchdowns in back-to-back weeks during the 2001 season.

“He’s had injuries before and he knows how to come back from them,” Bears coach Lovie Smith said, adding that Brown will be around to mentor other defensive backs.

Brown’s not sure what his latest injury might mean for his career in Chicago — he signed a six-year extension in 2003 — but he’s confident he’ll be on the field next season.

“I know I can come back and play at a really, really high level. I feel like I’m one of the best safeties in the league when I’m healthy, playing. That’s my goal, to get healthy so I can continue to play at that level,” he said.

At their worst, Bears still win

At their worst, Bears still win

/ Associated Press
Posted: 1 day ago

CHICAGO (AP) - Charles Tillman stood with both arms raised, while Devin Hester collapsed and pointed toward the sky. Over on the sideline, players and coaches bounced as if they were on trampolines, fists pumping and wide smiles crossing their faces as the opposing kicker missed a potential winning field goal.

The Chicago Bears were elated and relieved after rallying to beat Arizona 24-23 Monday night and remain undefeated. They improved to 6-0 for the first time in 20 years, even when everything seemed to be going wrong.

"We were supposed to win the game for some reason," quarterback Rex Grossman said. "Everything went our way when it needed to."

Not quite.

After extending his franchise record with his seventh defensive touchdown, Pro Bowl safety Mike Brown was carted off the field in the fourth quarter with a sprained right foot. More details were not available on Tuesday.

The Bears have not played well when Brown has been sidelined the past two seasons.

He missed 14 games in 2004 with a torn right Achilles' tendon, one of many injuries that sent Chicago limping to a 5-11 record. Last season, the Bears went 2-2 over the final four regular-season games with Brown nursing a strained left calf. He barely played in the playoff loss to Carolina, in which Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith caught 12 passes for 218 yards and two long touchdowns.

"We struggled without Mike last year, but I think with the young guys we have, with the combination of guys and I think with our D-line ... if we can play with those guys picking it up, I think we can do it," defensive coordinator Ron Rivera told the Chicago Sun-Times. "We kind of patchwork things."

Which was what the Bears did on Monday.

They stitched together a win even though the offense was at its worst and the defense got pushed around and missed assignments for much of the first three quarters.

The numbers were jaw-dropping.

Four interceptions and two lost fumbles for quarterback Rex Grossman. Three points by the offense. A 20-point deficit.

A team that had outscored Seattle and Buffalo by a combined 77-13 the previous two weeks managed just 168 yards on offense while Arizona finished with 286. A running game that had shown signs of life the previous two weeks mustered just 34 yards. And Grossman immediately served notice he was off when he overthrew a wide-open Bernard Berrian on the game's first play.

Still, the Bears went into the bye week celebrating, rather than sulking.

They can thank their defense, special teams and Cardinals kicker Neil Rackers, who missed what would have been a go-ahead 41-yard field goal with 53 seconds left.

As ugly as this game was, it may have been a defining moment for the Bears. While their execution was shaky, their will never wavered.

"Everyone started saying, 'Let's believe,"' Bears defensive tackle Tank Johnson said. "In the fourth quarter, I was holding up four fingers and telling everybody that we have to finish. That's the main thing we have been preaching all year."

There was Mark Anderson sacking Leinart and jarring the ball loose in the closing seconds of the third quarter, and there was Brown scooping it up for a 3-yard return that cut Arizona's lead to 23-10. There was Urlacher ripping the ball out of Edgerrin James' hands and Tillman returning the fumble 40 yards for another touchdown after Grossman had thrown his fourth interception. And there was the rookie Hester returning a punt for a touchdown for the second time this season, running it back 83 yards to give the Bears a 24-23 lead.

It was the first time an NFL team rallied to win from a 20-point deficit without getting an offensive touchdown.

Now, they have time to heal and fix what went wrong on Monday. And they have a favorable schedule, with home games against San Francisco and Miami. Then again, Arizona (1-5) wasn't expected to put up much of a fight.

"To be truthful, our team thought they could come back and win the football game, even though it was looking bleak for a long time," coach Lovie Smith said. "It was basically that. When are we going to do it? Somebody has to do it."

The Chicago Bears Blowed Out The Buffalo Bills 40 - 7...

GO BEARS!!!!!!   BEARBANG!!!!  BEARBANG!!!!!!

Chicago-after vowing all week that they weren't going to

suffer a letdown following an impressive win over the

defending NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks, the Bears went

out and  proved it Sunday on a picture-perfect afternoon at

Soldier Field....

Dominating on offense, defense and special teams for the second straight game, Chicago scored on it's first five

possessions in taking a 27-0 halftime lead en route to a resounding 40-7 Victory over Dick Jauron's Buffalo Bills....

With the win, the Bears improved to 5-0 for the first time since 1986, remained the NFC's only undefeated team

and maintained their two-game lead atop the NFC North over Minnesota Vikings (3-2), who rallied to defeat the Detroit Lion's 26-17....

Chicago's offense generated four touchdowns for the third time in as many home games, the defense produced three interceptions and three sacks and the special teams

contributed two takeaways and four field goals....

Chicago lost its shutout bid with 1:06 remaining in the game on J.P Losman's 5-yard TD pass to receiver Lee Evans

. It was just the second touchdown permitted by the Bears defense this season and only the third TD in eight straight

home Victories.... Yay! Yay ! Yay!  Go Bears!!!

Talking about Spaces URL Changes

Spaces URL Changes
There have been a lot of comments on The Spacecraft about the upcoming Spaces URL changes. Here is some insight into why this is happening.

Spaces has grown very quickly into one of the Web’s mega services. So quickly in fact that we just passed the 100MM user mark and have had to do some architectural changes to ensure that Spaces can be deployed in multiple data centers. We needed to deliver a system that allows for Spaces to be distributed across multiple data centers without requiring a URL that included the data center name. How unkewl would that be? Can you imagine telling your friends and family that the URL to your space was http://cluster25.dc1.spaces.msn.com/gphipps?

So we have developed a DNS (Domain Name System) based solution that allows us to redirect requests to the right data center and allows us to keep a better looking URL. Moving the Space name into the domain name is a requirement of that.

We also heard the pain we created for our users with the URL change made in our release in January and to help mitigate this upcoming name change we have worked with the following companies to proactively address the associated ranking issues:

  • Technorati
  • Weblogs
  • Feedster
  • PubSub.com
  • Bloglines
  • Ask.com

In addition, we have dialogs with the following search engine companies

  • Live Search
  • Yahoo
  • Google

I can’t promise that this will be a completely seamless transition; but rest assured we are working hard to make this as seamless as possible.

Doing the rearchitecture work and making the move to Live Spaces was not possible for a number of technical reasons. This is why we can’t move straight to the spaces.live.com name. However, we believe that when we do move to Live Spaces that will be the last time we have to change the URL. This isn’t something we decided to do lightly. We have had to make a ton of tradeoffs from both a technical perspective and the impact to our users.

Thanks for making Spaces your home. We do care what you think and we are listenting.
